A Little South Bay History
With mention of Huell Howser this week in the Daily Breeze and friend of mine, a local videographer, Jerry Miles came to mind. He really is our very own local Video Historian:
Although Jerry who has lived out of this area for all of his adult life, Our South Bay left an indelible mark on his heart and soul. And he has used his gift of videographer to capture his memories (and others) on video. This is much needed in this day and time, thanks to Jerry we now have our history in Photos.
Go to http://cougartown.com/video_page.php for a taste and then to You tube under Jerry Miles to finds more.
Everything is here from shots of our South Bay cities way back in the day to the Beach Boys to Northrop’s Flying wing. Stop, slow down and ENJOY.
Costco to Build New Store
According to Nick Green, of the Daily Breeze, another big change in the wind. Costco has filed an application with the city to build a larger store with more parking. This will be built on the 23-acre parcel on Lomita Boulevard adjacent to its current location. The new store would total 161,500 square feet on 17.5 acres. The current store is 148,000-square-foot store and features 761spaces compared to the new store which will offer 874 parking spaces for the shoppers convenience.
The other interesting part of this story is that Home Depot
located in the Crossroads Shopping center is considering moving in to the old Costco once the new structure and the Costco move in complete which is across the street for Lowes.

I Am Thinking of Remodeling My Mid Century Torrance Home. Where Do I Start?
Ask these questions:
Why am I remodeling?
How much do I want to spend?
Is the remodeling for my pleasure or to upgrade for reselling?
Make out a budget following these guidelines:
On a $400,000 Home, You will want to cap at $60,000 for remodeling using the following percentages.
Finished attic account for 10-15%
½ bath= 5%, bathrooms,
Full bath: 5-10%
Kitchen 10-15% of the property value.

Once you have devised a budget, interview General contractors, asking for copies of their licenses and insurances, including workman’s comp. Make your choice, sign the contract and you are on your way to a beautiful like new Torrance home.
Wiseburn High School Building Begins.
The transformation of the Northrop Grumman facility to the brand new Wiseburn High school in El Segundo has begun. wiseburnhigh school rendering
By the time the project is complete it will house the new Wiseburn high school and the three DeVinci chater schools tht are currently in the Wiseburn school facilities. This is the first school being developed in the South Bay in 50 years.
This is rather an innovative concept. The Wisburn Hgh School and the DeVinci schools will share the building and certain facilities while remaining independent. But will consolidate extra cucculat activities such as sports, band etc.
