Rose Float

11:31
course now what is the you know how long
11:34
have you been doing this how long have
11:36
you been with the Roseland association
11:37
my personally I was actually on the
11:40
float in 2012 and I’ve been on the board
11:43
one year and then the last three years
11:46
I’m a secretary for the float and what’s
11:49
the most exciting part of putting this
11:51
float together I think it’s the
11:53
enthusiasm of our volunteers we have an
11:57
expanded list of volunteers who come
11:59
every year we have two days that we do
12:01
sign ups and it’s it’s people afterwards
12:05
saying oh I always wanted to what we
12:08
have our volunteers set up so be ready
12:10
for next year so now are you still
12:12
taking volunteers no no we don’t need
12:15
any more volunteers but we do have we do
12:19
in volunteers for a hospitality tent ok
12:21
hospitality provides we do provide a
12:24
lunch for volunteers we’ve provide
12:27
coffees and teas and snacks and we need
12:30
people in the tent in order to give out
12:33
and and refresh the foods refresh the
12:36
sacs as well as we do sell some of our
12:39
pins and patches there as well of course
12:41
so now tell me let’s bring you back list
12:44
to talk a little bit about the theme
12:45
power of music so how did you
12:47
incorporate that on the float well this
12:50
year because the theme is melody of life
12:53
we are a concept designer with asahara’s
12:56
high school student
12:57
and that went that design went to Fiesta
13:00
floats they ended up putting it together
13:02
a power of music and if you haven’t seen
13:05
them the rendering on our website
13:08
there’s a keyboard there’s a treble clef
13:10
there are instruments and all kinds of
13:14
flowers and you feel you feel melody
13:17
when you’re looking at it and this year
13:19
of course which was very unique to us is
13:21
we do have a band on our float a live
13:23
band usually it’s Santa it’s music sound
13:26
it’s gonna be real this year how did you
13:30
go in finding that band and what made
13:31
you guys decide to have a band on the
13:33
flow in the first place I think it was
13:35
with the help of our float designer that
13:37
we decided to have the band and with the
13:40
help of her float because of that we had
13:42
to go find a man and how we were going
13:43
to do that so between social media
13:45
conversations with everyone we knew we
13:48
put it out there that we were looking
13:49
for a band so the community outreach was
13:52
great we came back with many many
13:55
entries we had three music teachers
13:58
professional music teachers do the
14:00
initial judging they brought it down to
14:02
three entries and the trance Rose float
14:05
Association Board of Directors got an
14:08
opportunity to listen to all three and
14:10
we chose one and the winning the winning
14:13
band came were former high school
14:17
students they’re now all in college from
14:19
the Torrance area and they’re a band
14:22
called Alinea okay and Alinea members
14:24
have been performing for many years now
14:27
all over the South Bay in Long Beach so
14:30
they call him professionally
14:32
professionally expanded we look forward
14:35
to putting them on to listen to their
14:37
music they’ve already they were at
14:40
Fiesta floats about a month ago so we
14:43
can put them on the float see where they
14:44
all fit within music with their
14:46
instruments and to hear the sound and
14:48
what that was going to be about so we’re
14:50
excited so this is your first year
14:52
having live band on the float yes so
14:54
what were some of the challenges that
14:56
you faced putting this one together
14:58
well when the Fiesta had to figure out
15:01
where to put all of their instruments
15:03
and their instruments have to be hidden
15:05
and all the wires have to be hidden
15:07
because we still have float riders on
15:10
the plane
15:11
on the float a lot of people yes so
15:14
there’s a lot of people there and we
15:16
have a sound person and of course you
15:17
have the the person who’s driving the
15:21
float so we need a spot for him so they
15:24
did a great job well get to see it
15:26
looking forward to seeing that part and
15:28
what can we expect to hear from them
15:30
they actually this year what we decided
15:33
and this was just decided that we’re
15:35
we’re we’re providing they are going to
15:38
be playing their own music so we have a
15:42
special song that they will be playing
15:44
as they come around the mountain come
15:46
around the corner where all the TV
15:48
cameras are but they have their own
15:50
songs that they’ll be singing oh that’s
15:52
so exciting for the bands for the band
15:54
and we’re excited that we can help them
15:56
with the city of torrents of course
15:58
because they are torrent torrent high
16:00
school students and we like the fact and
16:02
that was part of the reason that they
16:03
were chosen is they were from torrents
16:06
so we’re looking for all of our torrents
16:08
community to watch the parade and okay
16:12
and celebrate our float now how long are
16:14
they gonna have to play for like how
16:15
long is the route I believe the route is
16:18
five miles okay
16:19
but we were told yesterday that they’d
16:21
been known to do gig set or two and a
16:23
half hours and they don’t stop so
16:25
they’re ready they are ready now you
