Torrance Beach

Torrance Beach starts at Redondo Beach’s  “Burnout” Beach (named for the burnt down Hollywood Riviera Beach Club)  and Torrance’s  Miramar Park to the start of the hill. And then to the PV Beach Club which is affectionately called RATS by locals. For Right After Torrance.

Right After Torrance (RATBeach is the unofficial name of a short stretch of Los Angeles County unincorporated beach, officially known as Torrance County Beach, located along southern Santa Monica Bay, contiguous to the city of Torrance, California and neighboring Palos Verdes Estates in Los Angeles County.

Rats Beach Torrance

This beach is pristinely “shadowed”  by the regal homes overlooking the beach and crashing waves.

These homes are often mistakenly thought to be PV. However, these mini estates overlooking RATS were developed years ago as Torrance leasehold property. Which many in recent years have been purchased on option by their leaseholders as the contracts have expired.

Of course prior to all of this expansion was  Flotsam Castle. This home right on the waterline at RATS and Malaga Cove. It was built by a transplant from Nebraska named Louis Dart in the 1920’s. A hermit who came out to die from his afflictions. He was introduced to the healing properties from a seasonal creek by a local.

He recovered and began to build his castle from driftwood and scraps from the ocean.  1922 popular mechanics article flotsam castle
