In a surprise announcement, Donald Trump announced plans to abandon the building of 16 luxury homes on the bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean and will grant a conservation easement to the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, which assures that the 11 acre driving range on the bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean undeveloped. Golfers will be able to continue to use the land as part of the Trump Golf Course. Locals, city officials and others have urged Trump to leave the golf course undeveloped due to the area’s stability problems.

Trump agreed that the property is a valuable peice of land, but that it was a  honor to be able to donate the land. Trump said that he will continue to develop other parts of the original 600 acre site situated along the Palos Verdes peninsula as planned. Trump purchased the property in 2002 when it was known as the Ocean Trails Golf Club. The then golf club went into bankruptcy after  most of the land around the 18 th hole slid off into the ocean in 1999.
