South High School Alumni Max Kaplan, a 20-year-old Ivy League student, has earned a gold Congressional Award medal. In the entire nation, there were only 236 awarded this year. The honor is the highest Congress can award to youths aged 14 to 23. The event was held during Kaplan’s Christmas break from Princeton University because he was unable to attend a ceremony in June in the nation’s capital.

Torrance has been named as one of the most livable midsize cites in the United States. It came in Number 32.
The South Bay’s largest community received the rating from a survey of cities with populations of 20,000 to 350,000 conducted by the website livability.com.
Torrance received high marks for the quality of education available and amenities such as parks and climate, but surprisingly low grades for health-care facilities.
I do not understand that when we have Torrance Memorial Medical Center, Little Company of Mary Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente Medical Offices plus Kaiser Medical Center just a few blocks from the city boundaries,
Mayor Scotto said, “Rated 32nd in the United States is a pretty big deal, I think, all in all, people would say Torrance is a great place to live.”
